Win for School Heads as TSC and SRC Conclude Negotiations for Special Duty Allowance

Amid rumors of job stagnation among teachers, the employer, TSC, intends to compensate over 3,000 acting school administrators, which will provide them with cause for celebration shortly.

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) informed the Education Committee in parliament that it has concluded negotiations with the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) and is looking into a budget line to pay a special duty allowance to such educators.

According to data compiled by the Presidential Working Party on Education Reforms, the strategy will be advantageous for 3,359 schools that are currently operating without a principal.

Many teachers have become mired in their job groups as a result of this. “Demoralization and, at times, burnout can result from the fact that many maintain the same grade level for years,” states the report.

In response, the Education Ministry is advised to harmonize teacher management policies, including the career progression guidelines that govern teacher promotions, as suggested in the report.

Such an outcome might compel the TSC to reconsider its promotional mechanisms and return to the conceptual stage.
