New Pay Allowances for B5 Teachers, Chief Principals, and Rural Educators

It is anticipated that teachers residing in rural areas will be among the largest beneficiaries of the reevaluation of their salaries and allowances.

In addition to receiving a pay increase of between 2.4% and 9.5% beginning this month, teachers will also receive increased housing allowances in the newly grouped regions as a result of the harmonization of the allowances in the new salary appraisals.

Under the new pay structure for teachers, those with the lowest salaries receive the highest percentage of the increase, 9.5%, while those with the highest salaries receive an increase of 2.4%.

Backdated to July, the pay raises for teachers will take effect this month, resulting in larger paychecks beginning in August.

Teachers living in rural areas will be among those smiling all the way to the bank, as their house allowances have been harmonised under the four clusters, which comprise the entire country.

Housing Allowance Based on Clusters:

In the new allowances structure, a grade B5 teacher will be entitled to a house allowance of Ksh. 6,750 if they live in cluster one area, Nairobi; Ksh. 4,400 for cluster 2 areas of Mombasa, Kisumu, Nakuru, Nyeri, Eldoret, Thika, Kisii, Malindi, and Kitale; Ksh. 3,850 for those living in cluster three areas comprising other former municipalities; and a similar amount for all other areas of the country.

A Chief Principal residing in Nairobi will receive Ksh.50,000 in house allowance, while those residing in Cluster 2 will receive Ksh.35,000, Cluster 3 will receive Ksh.25,000, and Cluster 4 will receive Ksh.21,000.
