Ministry Assures Timely Payments of Examiners as Kipsang Calls for Trust
The Principal Secretary for the State Department of Basic Education, Dr. Belio Kipsang, has assured teachers managing exams of timely payment.
Kipsang stated that the Education Ministry has taken steps to ensure examiners, invigilators, scorers, and security personnel, among others engaged in the administration of national examinations, are paid on time in order to avoid problems.
While calling for collaborative efforts to ensure that they deliver a credible examination, Dr. Kipsang emphasized the need to address a lack of trust during the administration of exams.

He said that there was no need to involve police officers. However, this would only be possible if there was trust in teachers and their ability to deliver credible exams.
“Let us endeavor to end this trust deficit during national examinations. We need to get back the trust we had in the teaching profession. Why don’t we see mock exams leaking, yet we are the ones who set, administer, and mark them? We can also do it with the national exams,” Dr. Kipsang said.
The PS also cautioned schools against scheduling extracurricular activities during the third term in order for students to adequately prepare for exams.

In addition, he requested that teachers refrain from sending students, notably candidates, home for school fees during the third term in order to limit their exposure to incidents that could hinder their exam preparation.
Approximately 3.5 million students are expected to take their national examinations this year, comprising 1.4 million candidates for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE), 1.2 million for the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA), and 900,000 candidates for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education Examinations (KCSE).
