KCSE Rehearsals Begins on Thursday: Dates for KCPE and KPSEA

The Kenya National Examinations Council has announced that examination rehearsals for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education 2023 has begun today on Thursday, October 19.

This comes as preparations continue for Form 4 candidates taking national exams from October 23 to November 24.

On Wednesday, Knec announced that the rehearsal date for KCPE and KPSEA is Friday, October 27.

The KCPE and KPSEA examinations will commence on Monday, October 30, and conclude on Wednesday, November 1.

Knec is anticipated to employ 1,700 officers to oversee the exam administration.

The council stated that the officers are not only from Knec but also from other educational institutions.

In primary schools, the 8-4-4 system will cease with the 2023 KCPE examinations.

Over three and a half million candidates will take national examinations, with the number of KCPE candidates representing the highest increase ever recorded in the country.

This year, just under one million students will take KCSE examinations, while 1,4 million will take KCPE exams. The number of individuals enrolled to take the inaugural KPSEA is 1,200,000.

During a briefing for the monitoring officers held at the Knec headquarters in New Mitihani House on Monday and Tuesday, the Principal Secretary for Basic Education, Belio Kipsang, urged the officers to be committed to ensuring the effective and efficient administration of the assessments and examinations.

Kipsang stated that they play a more significant role than just delivering the examinations. He emphasized the need to motivate the candidates by assuring them that it’s a process everyone went through, and they can also successfully complete it.

The PS also commended KNEC for its admirable work, particularly over the past year when the Council switched from conducting the customary two exams to an unprecedented five exams as the nation worked to restore order to the academic calendar following the COVID-19 pandemic’s disruption.

Principal Secretaries from the Ministry of Education were present, along with the Council and Executive Management of Knec.

On Thursday, Several secondary institutions in the Kangemi, Lavington, and Westlands regions had to reschedule their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education exam rehearsal dates.

The Kenya National Examinations Council designated Thursday as the day for schools to conduct their exams rehearsals.

Students will commence their exams on October 23.

A principal from one of the schools stated that the activity could not proceed due to the presence of other students in the exam centers.

The rehearsals for Thursday could not proceed due to some rooms meant for exam purposes being occupied by other students, as mentioned by one principal.

According to a Ministry of Education school calendar, schools are to close next week, making this ten-week break between the end of the third term and January 8 one of the longest for students.

Wednesday was the last day for students in the lower grades at one of the schools.

There was a flurry of activity inside the school, which had restricted access.

Some students from nearby schools who are scheduled to take the exam at the center were observed entering the institution.

Another school plans to hold rehearsals on Tuesday of the following week.

“Due to because of to the presence of other students in the institution which is an exam centre, it cannot be practicable to proceed with the rehearsal plans, we will be conducting our rehearsals upon closing of the school,” a different school admin explained.

The examinations will begin the following Monday with oral questions in French, German, and Arabic, as well as Kenya Sign Language and Music.

The KCSE examinations will conclude with Physics practicals on November 24, 2023.

The Kenya Certificate of Primary Exams and Kenya Primary School Education Assessment, on the other hand, will hold their rehearsals on October 27, 2023.

KNEC announced that it has completed all preparations to conduct the national examinations for the 2.3 million students taking the KCPE and KCSE exams this year.

Approximately 1,415,315 candidates will take the KCPE examination, while an additional 903,260 will take the KCSE examination.
