How to Apply for Registration and Licensing of TVET Trainers
According to Section 23 of the TVET Act 2013, the TVET Authority Board must register and license all TVET trainers. The list of accredited trainers will be publicly available on the Authority’s website, and training providers are mandated to recruit only accredited trainers.
It is mandatory for all TVET trainers to be registered and licensed by TVETA. Failure to comply with the provisions of the TVET Act, 2013, may result in a fine not exceeding one million shillings, imprisonment for a term not exceeding three years, or both, as stipulated in sections 17(4), 22(4), and 56 of the Act.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for registration and licensing as a TVET trainer, you must meet the following requirements:
- Academic Qualifications: Possess at least a Craft Certificate in your area of specialization from recognized institutions such as KNEC, KICD, CDACC, NITA, KASNEB, or accredited universities.
- Pedagogical Training: Have completed pedagogy training from recognized institutions, such as a Diploma in Technical Education or a Postgraduate Diploma in Education.
- Certificate of Good Conduct: Obtain a valid Certificate of Good Conduct from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
- Continuous Professional Development (CPD): Provide evidence of CPD activities, especially when renewing your trainer license after the three-year validity period.

Application Process:
- Online Application: Submit applications through the TVET MIS portal at mis.tveta.go.ke.
- Required Documentation:
- Academic Qualifications: Certified copies of at least a Craft Certificate from approved qualification awarding institutions such as KNEC/KICD, CDACC, NPs, KASNEB, NITA, or accredited local/foreign universities.
- Pedagogy Training: Evidence of pedagogy training from recognized institutions, such as degrees in Education or Technology Education, Diplomas in Technical Education, or equivalent qualifications.
- Certificate of Good Conduct: Issued by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
- Continuous Professional Development (CPD): Mandatory for renewing trainer licenses after a 3-year expiry.

Application Process
The application for registration and licensing is conducted online through the TVETA Management Information System (MIS) portal. Follow these steps:
- Access the Portal: Visit the TVETA MIS portal at https://mis.tveta.go.ke.
- Create an Account: For first-time applicants, click on the “Register” button under the Trainer/Assessor/Verifier section to create an account.
- Activate Your Account: An activation link will be sent to your registered email address. Click on the link to activate your account and set your password.
- Complete the Application Form: Log in to your account and fill in the required information across the following sections:
- Personal Information
- Contact Information
- Education
- Experience
- Confirmation
- Upload Required Documents: Attach certified copies of your academic and professional certificates, Certificate of Good Conduct, and evidence of CPD (if applicable).
- Submit the Application: Review all the information provided, give consent that the information is accurate, and submit your application.
- Make Payment: Upon submission, you will be directed to the payment page. The applicable fees are:
- First-time application: KES 1,000
- Renewal after 3 years: KES 500
- Upgrading after acquiring higher qualifications: KES 1,000

License Validity and Renewal
The trainer license is valid for a period of three years. After this period, you are required to renew the license by providing evidence of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) activities and paying the renewal fee of KES 500.
Important Notes:
- Ensure all academic and professional certificates are certified before attaching them to the online application form.
- Trainer licenses are valid for three years, after which renewal is necessary.
Application Charges:
- First-time Application: KES 1,000.00
- Renewal after a 3-year expiry: KES 500.00
- Upgrading after acquiring higher qualifications: KES 1,000.00

Penalty Clause:
