Senators Criticize Machogu Over Alleged Targeting of Kisii Region in Exam Crackdown
On Saturday, a group of Azimio Senators criticized Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu, alleging that the government unfairly targeted the Kisii region in its crackdown on teachers, principals, and test center managers involved in exam cheating.
At a meeting at the New Dawn SDA Church in West Mugirango Constituency, the senators questioned the accuracy of the recent busts, saying it was unlikely that the police would find most of the cheating cases in one area.

The legislators, led by Nyamira Senator Okong’o Omogeni, argued that cheating claims in the Kisii region were baseless and had a bad impact on students.
“Machogu is from here, and he understands us because he was raised in this area.” “How long will we be referred to as exam cheats?” Omogeni posed for the camera.
“He is the Education CS, and we expect him to protect the Gusii Community.” Nothing has gone wrong.”
Stewart Madzayo, Senator from Kilifi and Senate minority leader, stated that the charges were casting a negative picture on the region.

Madzayo noted that parents worked hard to get their children to school and struggled to pay school fees, and that the government was trivialising this element.
“If students from Kisii have studied well, passed exams and topped the country, please just give them the opportunity to celebrate their victory,” Enock Wambua, senator from Kitui, said.
Migori Senator Eddy Oketch, who joined the conversation, declared that President William Ruto’s government was shattering the hopes and dreams of young Kisii students.
Kisii and Nyamira regions have been on high alert for the ongoing KCSE exams, with numerous tutors suspended due to exam irregularities.
