CEMASTEA Initiates Training Drive for Pre-Technical Studies and Agriculture & Nutrition JSS Teachers

In a recent circular addressed to all CTCDC Chairpersons, the Centre for Mathematics, Science, and Technology Education in Africa (CEMASTEA) has highlighted a crucial initiative aimed at enhancing the quality of education in Junior Secondary Schools.

CEMASTEA, known for its commitment to improving pedagogical content knowledge, trained 7,380 teachers in Mathematics and Integrated Science in December 2023.

However, the circular reveals that teachers assigned to instruct Pre-Technical Studies and Agriculture & Nutrition – essential components of the STEM Pathway in Senior School – were omitted from the training due to insufficient funding at that time.

To address this gap, CEMASTEA is urging the Curriculum Training and Development Committees (CTCDC) to determine the number of Junior Secondary School teachers responsible for teaching Pre-Technical Studies and Agriculture & Nutrition who have not undergone CEMASTEA training. This data is essential for planning specialized training programs.

The circular specifies that the information must be submitted to CEMASTEA by Wednesday, March 6, 2024. CTCDCs are encouraged to utilize the provided template for capturing details, and the submissions should be in soft copy format (Excel or Word).

The Chief Executive Officer of CEMASTEA, Jacinta L. Akatsa, HSC, expressed gratitude for the continuous support in implementing CEMASTEA programs, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in advancing educational initiatives.

A copy of the circular has been distributed to Regional Directors of Education, TSC-Regional Directors, and TSC County Directors to ensure widespread awareness and participation in this data collection effort.
