Term One Co-Curricular Calendar: Events, Requirements for Primary and Junior School Competitions

Primary and junior school learners are currently on a half-term break scheduled from February 29th to March 4th, with classes set to resume afterward.

Upon returning, both primary and junior school levels will engage in athletics competitions. Additionally, junior school learners will participate in various sporting activities beyond athletics.

In term one, junior school learners will be involved in Athletics, Cross country, Handball, Swimming, and Basketball 5×5. On the other hand, primary school learners will focus solely on athletics during term one.

Outlined below are the athletic events featured in the first term competitions for both primary and junior school learners:

Sprints (short races):

  • 100m
  • 200m
  • 400m
  • 400m hurdles

Middle distance races:

  • 800m
  • 1500m
  • 3000m

Long distance races:

  • 5000m
  • 5000m walk

Relays:

  • 4 x 100m
  • 4 x 400m
  • 4 x 400m mixed

Jumps:

  • High Jump
  • Long Jump
  • Triple Jump
  • Pole Vault

Throws:

  • Javelin
  • Short Putt
  • Discus
  • Hammer

Important notes:

  • Unless indicated otherwise, all races are open to both boys and girls.
  • Short races have one participant per school.
  • Middle distance and field events (throws and jumps) allow two participants per school.
  • Long-distance events permit three participants per school.

Documentation requirements for participation include a birth certificate (with no age limit), an introduction letter, and a photo of the participant with the head of the institution.

Looking ahead to the national co-curricular activities calendar, the schedule for secondary schools sports is set from April 6th to 14th, 2024. The events include Rugby 15s, Athletics, Basketball 5×5, Hockey, Handball, Cross Country, and Swimming. The Eastern region, with Machakos as the host county, will host this leg.

A clinic is scheduled from April 6th to 8th, with teams arriving on April 7th, and action taking place from April 9th to 13th, concluding with departures on April 14th.

Simultaneously, secondary special schools sports will be held from April 6th to 12th, 2024, featuring Rugby 15s, Athletics, Basketball 5×5, Hockey, Handball, Cross Country, and Swimming. The Rift Valley region, with Nakuru as the host county, will oversee the event.

A clinic is scheduled for April 6th to 7th, teams will arrive on April 7th, and action will unfold from April 9th to 11th, concluding with departures on April 12th.
