The Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), unveiled a new salary scale and allowance structure for teachers, including Senior Master IV, Senior Lecturer IV, Senior Teacher-SNE (Special Needs Education), and Deputy Headteacher II.

Salary for Senior Lecturer, Senior Master, SNE Senior Teacher (C4 T-9)

As of June 30, 2023, the basic salary for Grade C4 teachers stood at Ksh 52,308.

Senior Lecturer, Senior Master, SNE Senior Teacher (C4 T-9) enjoy an enhanced salary package, with the lowest point on the scale receiving Ksh 54,584.

New Entrants: For those starting their careers in these positions, the basic salary stand at Ksh 52,308, which falls under Grade C4.

Salary Progression: As educators gain experience and seniority, their salaries will increase based on a points system.

After the first year, they move to Grade 2 with a basic salary of Ksh 54,584, and so on, reaching Grade 7 with a basic salary of Ksh 67,220 after seven years of service.

The salary progression for these senior teaching staff and administrators is divided into salary points, allowing for incremental growth and incentives to encourage continuous professional development.

Employees in Grade C4 can look forward to steady salary increases as they gain experience and expertise.

At Salary Point 2, the basic salary has increased from Ksh 55,604 to Ksh 56,947.

  • For Salary Point 3, it has risen from Ksh 56,347 to Ksh 59,387.
  • At Salary Point 4, the basic salary has increased from Ksh 58,482 to Ksh 61,909.
  • Finally, at Salary Point 5, teachers and administrators will receive a basic salary of Ksh 60,698, up from Ksh 62,998.

The highest salary point within this Grade C4 category, Salary Point 7, see educators and administrators earn Ksh 67,220, an increase from the previous Ksh 65,385.

Additional Allowances for Teachers:

In addition to the salary increments, the government adjusted various allowances to provide additional financial support to teachers. Appendix B details these allowances:

  • Hardship Allowance: Teachers under Grade C4 will receive a hardship allowance of Ksh 14,650, helping to alleviate the challenges they face while working in remote or underserved areas.
  • Commuter Allowance: Teachers in this grade will receive Ksh 8,000 as a commuter allowance, aiding with transportation costs incurred during their work commute.
  • Annual Leave Allowance: Teachers will now receive an annual leave allowance of Ksh 6,000, allowing them to enjoy a well-deserved break and recuperate during their annual leave.
  • Disability Guide Allowance: Teachers in this category will receive a disability guide allowance of Ksh 20,000, demonstrating the government’s commitment to supporting educators with disabilities.
