TSC Demands Sh134 Billion as it Seeks to Employ 111,870 Teachers

Over the next five years, the Teachers Service Commission will hire 111,870 teachers.

The chief executive officer of the TSC, Nancy Macharia, stated that the government will recruit teachers to alleviate the teacher deficit in all elementary schools.

“During the five years, we project to recruit a total of 111,870 teachers,” Macharia said.

Macharia spoke at the inauguration of the 2023-2027 strategic plan for the Commission.

The chief executive officer stated that Sh134 billion is required to recruit 111,870 teachers within five years.

During the introduction of the five-year plan, TSC CEO Nancy Macharia stated that the plan will require funding to be successful.

TSC was allocated a total of Sh316.7 billion in the 2023-24 Financial Year Budget, of which Sh4.8 billion was for the recruitment of 20,000 intern teachers and Sh2.5 billion was for the recruitment of teachers.

She added that a total of Ksh.4.68 billion has been allocated to the commission for the hiring of 20,000 intern instructors.

Education CS Ezekiel Machogu announced on June 28 that the government will begin hiring 25,000 instructors this month.

This was stated by Machogu in Mombasa at the 46th Kenya Secondary School Heads Association (KESSHA) Conference.

“In the outgoing Financial Year, we have employed 36,000 new teachers and in the next Financial Year will hire an additional 25,000 teachers,” Machogu said.

According to Machogu, the Kenya Kwanza government is entirely committed to fostering the growth of the education sector.

President William Ruto’s administration allocated the greatest portion of the Education budget to the Teachers Service Commission.

According to the 2023-24 Budget, TSC received Sh316.7 billion, or half of the Sh 628.6 billion allocated to the education sector in total.
