Marigat Boys Students Walk 40 Kilometers to Protest Sale Of Water In School
Over three hundred students from Marigat Boys High School in Baringo South Sub-County marched forty kilometers to the Baringo County Headquarters to protest the sale of water in their school, claiming that it compromised sanitation standards.
Baringo County Commissioner Stephen Kutwa assured the students, who arrived at his office grounds in Kabarnet, Baringo central sub-county, on Tuesday after walking 40 kilometers beginning at midnight, that their grievances would be addressed without reprisal.
Kutwa stated that they were there for the individuals and wanted to assure them that any issues raised would be addressed promptly, aiming to restore normalcy to the school.
As they had limited time to complete their secondary education and become responsible citizens, Kutwa urged the students to work diligently on their academics.

A student who spoke anonymously stated that the school’s hygiene was poor because there was no water, and that the cooks were using unclean cooking utensils, posing a health risk.
The student added that there was discrimination because students in Form 1 were required to clean the dining hall and dormitories during class time, which was demoralizing.
Regarding their preparation for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination in October, one student noted that the school library lacked revision papers, which put them at a disadvantage.
The students were transported back to school with the promise that their complaints would be addressed immediately.
