List of Top 2023 KCSE Students Nationally

Education CS Ezekiel Machogu announced the release of the KCSE 2023 results on Monday, disclosing that 1,216 candidates achieved a mean grade of A. This reflected a six percent enhancement compared to the 2022 results.

The breakdown revealed that male students dominated the top achievers, with 825 males attaining As, while 391 females achieved the same grade.

Here’s a list of some of the top performers:

  2. Shadrack Wachira – Lenana High School
  3. Nuyahd Nadi Omar – Light Academy
  4. Karanja Stephanie – Loreto High School, Limuru
  5. Malcolm John Nezereah – Jamhuri High School
  6. Tiffany Maina – Riara Springs Girls High School
  7. Philip Ndinda – Jamhuri High School
  8. Alfred Mutua – Moi Forces Academy
  9. Christopher Kinyanjui – Strathmore School
  10. Kamutu Ndinda – Alliance Girls

From a total of 903,260 candidates who sat for the KCSE examination, 889 top performers emerged from national schools, and 172 from extra-county schools. Private schools produced 143 candidates with grade A.

However, there was a concerning trend as only five and seven candidates scored As from county and sub-county schools, respectively, which collectively enroll over 75 percent of secondary students nationwide.

Moreover, 48,174 candidates scored a mean grade of E in the examination, with sub-county and private schools having the highest number of low-performing students.

KNEC CEO David Njeng’ere highlighted challenges, stating that some national schools weren’t adequately supporting students who scored E grades. He also expressed concerns about the return on investment in county schools, particularly boarding institutions.

The Ministry’s data indicated that 12 subjects recorded improvements compared to the 2022 KCSE examination.

These subjects included Mathematics, Kiswahili, Biology, Christian and Religious Education, Business Studies, German, Music, and Chemistry. Others on the list were French, Building Construction, and Electricity.
