KNUT Accuses TSC of Denying Delocalized Teachers a Return to their Home Counties
Collins Oyuu, the Secretary General of the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT), has criticized the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) for not allowing delocalized teachers to return to their home stations.
He stated that despite the Ministry of Education’s directive to return the teachers and permit broken families to reunite, TSC has yet to implement the changes.
Earlier in June, Section of Education officials were on the spot for denying delocalized teachers the opportunity to return to their home counties.
The officials from Trans-Nzoia, Uasingishu, and Bungoma Counties were allegedly demanding bribes from the afflicted teachers in order for them to be rerouted back home, despite the fact that the Government abandoned its delocalization policy.
TSC was given an ultimatum to reroute all instructors by January 31, 2023, but in some counties, this has not occurred.
The Commission had transferred 14,613 educators by January 23, 2023.
The Teachers Service Commission’s 2018 delocalization policy was repealed in November 2022 following the passage of a motion by Lurambi representative Titus Khamala.
The delocalization policy had an impact on about 6,000 teachers nationwide and led to the transfer of a number of teachers away from their preferred schools.
Officials of the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) in West Pokot County have protested the move, claiming that the Teachers Service Commission [TSC] was preventing local teachers from returning home.
