MP Protests Denial of Hardship Allowances for Teachers in Eldama Ravine
Musa Sirma, an Eldama Ravine-based member of parliament, has taken a strong stance against the alleged discrimination that teachers in the Koibatek sub-county experience.
The uproar centers around the denial of much-needed hardship allowances, with Sirma expressing his fervent disapproval of the Teacher Service Commission’s (TSC) actions.
He claimed that TSC discriminates against teachers in the Koibatek sub-county and urged KNUT to intervene.
The denial of hardship allowances, according to Sirma, not only compromises the teachers’ dedication and efforts but also hampers the quality of education in the region.
In a fervent plea for intervention, the parliamentarian urged the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) to take immediate action to address this pressing issue.
A hardship allowance is paid to teachers assigned to designated areas of hardship.
The allowance is intended to compensate teachers working in Hardship Areas for a lack of essential social services and amenities, a security risk, harsh climatic conditions, isolation, and separation from their families.
He called upon KNUT to stand in solidarity with the affected teachers and lobby the relevant authorities for a fair and equitable resolution.
This comes as KNUT threatens to rally teachers in skipping national exams in 2023 due to pay delays.
The union also Accused the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) of Denying Delocalized Teachers a Return to their Home Counties.
