The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has issued guidelines for the deployment of primary school teachers to junior secondary schools (JSS).

According to the guidelines, deployment letters will be signed by the Sub-County Directors for teachers within the Sub-County, while teachers who may be deployed outside the Sub-County will have letters signed by the County Directors or Regional Director in Nairobi.

When deploying teachers, consideration will be given to proximity to their current station, subject combination, and gender. Teachers should be deployed to their current stations or those that are close to their current stations whenever possible.

Sub-County Directors should not deploy teachers of similar subject combinations with those already posted to JSS unless a station requires more than one teacher of the same subject combination. Gender should be balanced among teachers posted to the same station.

Special JSS will receive teachers with Special Needs Education (SNE) qualifications, while deployment will be done using the templates shared. It is important to study the templates and seek clarification where necessary.

The Sub-County Director will sign two deployment letters for each teacher, with one letter issued to the teacher and the second original letter submitted, together with other deployment documents, for filing at the headquarters.

This deployment of primary school teachers to junior secondary schools is a positive step towards improving the quality of education in Kenya. The deployment will ensure that there are enough qualified teachers to meet the needs of JSS students, thereby improving their academic performance.

a) Teachers who are at Grade B5 or C1 and hold a Bachelor’s degree will be issued appointment letters to Grade C2 (as outlined in Appendix I).

b) Teachers who are at Grade B5 and hold a Diploma in Education will be issued appointment letters to Grade C1 (as outlined in Appendix II).

c) Teachers who are at Grade C2 or above and hold a Bachelor’s or Diploma certificate will be issued with deployment letters (as outlined in Appendix III).

d) Teachers who are at Grade C1 and hold a Diploma will also be issued with a deployment letter (as outlined in Appendix III).
