Kenyan Teacher Rose Tata Wekesa Breaks Guinness World Record with 62-Hour Teaching Marathon Science Class

Kenyan teacher Rose Tata Wekesa, from St Austin’s Academy Lavington, has made history by conducting the longest science class ever recorded, spanning 62 hours 33 minutes and 34 seconds. Wekesa’s remarkable achievement, breaking the record, was met with great excitement from her students.

Her teaching marathon, held at the Multimedia University of Kenya, secured her a place in the annals of history. Wekesa, in an interview with Citizen Digital, revealed the challenges she faced in achieving this feat, including overcoming sleep deprivation and fatigue.

She explained that preparation involved rigorous endurance training, with her team assisting in developing the lesson plan. Wekesa disclosed that she had stayed awake for 44 consecutive hours in the days leading up to the event to condition her body for the task at hand.

Wekesa emphasized her enduring passion for imparting knowledge to the younger generation, citing it as her primary motivation. She advised aspiring teachers to combine their enthusiasm for the subject with patience towards their students.

Notable accomplishments in the realm of science education include the largest science lesson record set in 2014, where 1,339 students were instructed by Steve McDonald at St. Louis University High School in Missouri.

Additionally, in 2020, a virtual science lesson conducted by British teacher Neil Monteiro attracted 16,066 participants, establishing a new Guinness World Record for the highest attendance at a science lesson.
