TSC to Promote 41,000 teachers This Year – Ruto

President William Ruto has announced that 41,000 teachers will be promoted as a reward for teaching excellence and as an incentive for their hard work.

The president announced on Wednesday during the Winner’s State of the Kenya Music Festival that the Teachers Service Commission will promote 5,000 teachers directly and 36,000 indirectly.

These teachers are expected to receive new compensation and benefits. Ruto highlighted the collaborative efforts between them and the TSC, aiming to motivate teachers to excel.

He emphasized the intention to promote teachers based on their performance, ensuring that those who demonstrate excellence receive recognition and advancement.

This year, 5,000 teachers will be promoted directly, while an additional 36,000 will be promoted indirectly.

According to what the president disclosed, the government has given TSC Sh1 billion to facilitate this promotion.

“We have provided a billion shillings that will go in that direction,” he said.

Ruto has also requested that TSC, Teachers Unions, and other parties expedite their negotiations and find a solution.

The Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) recently announced a seven- to ten percent salary increase for civil servants over a two-year period.

However, KUPPET Secretary General Akello Misori stated that the proposal would be rejected.

According to him, the primary topics of discussion will include a 70% basic compensation increase, promotions, medical benefits, and a pension plan.

Misori emphasized that the primary focus would be on addressing the areas where the Collective Bargaining Agreement negotiations had come to a halt.

He made it clear that the intention was not to introduce new propositions, as the discussions about salaries were already in progress.

TSC, the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT), the Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET), and the Kenya Union of Special Needs Education Teachers (KUSNET) all signed the agreement.

Misori demanded that the salaries of instructors be reconsidered before the salaries of state officers were increased.
