TSC to Hire 25,000 New Teachers Before August

President William Ruto confirmed that the Kenyan government will hire 25,000 teachers and deploy 11,000 community health promoters.

The president stated during a Sunday church service in Molo, Nakuru County, that the additional teachers will supplement the 35,000 employed this year.

This year, the government employed 35,000 teachers for the first time; no other government has ever employed such a large number of teachers.

This year before August, we will employ an additional 25,000 teachers so that every child in Kenya gets the opportunity to go to school,” the president said.

“It is imperative that we educate our young children, the biggest resource we have in Kenya is our children and the only way to ensure equality between the children from poor and rich backgrounds is through education,” he added.

According to Secretary General at KUPPET Akelo Misori, the government has failed to adequately staff schools despite a rising student population.

Over the past fifteen years, the number of students enrolled in schools has doubled, but the number of educators has been about the same, he said.

He pointed out that the Teachers Service Commission only hired 36,000 teachers this year because many of the retiring instructors needed to be replaced.
