TSC Teachers Promotion Interviews Set for December 4

Interviews for promotions for 36,505 teachers who have been stuck in one job group will begin next month, according to Teacher Service Commission (TSC) Chief Executive Officer Nancy Macharia.

Dr. Macharia encouraged teachers to apply for promotions, stating that interviews would begin on December 4. She regretted that the exercise had previously drawn few candidates.

“I wish to encourage those who have been invited for the interviews from 4th December 2023 to ensure that they attend without failure. Please encourage your teachers not to shy off from taking up responsibilities,” Macharia stated.

She added that the recruitment process, particularly the online recruitment module, has supplanted the manual procedure, eliminating the need for teachers to travel to either County offices or secondary schools to submit their job applications.

On Thursday, during the annual conference of the Kenya Primary School Head Teachers Association (Kepsha) in Mombasa, the TSC head disclosed that primary school teachers would constitute 17,914 of the 36,505 teachers slated for promotion.

She claimed some teachers had been in the same position for ten years. She urged that in the past, despite lowering the requirements, the Commission had struggled to attract sufficient applicants for promotions.

Macharia emphasized the availability of Sh1 billion for the current exercise and encouraged individuals to apply.

“I urge you to apply because we have Sh1 billion for this exercise,” she said.

Macharia urged the teachers to confidently embrace the prospect of taking on additional responsibilities.

The commission actively advertised positions for chief principals, principals, deputy principals, head teachers and their deputies, senior masters, and senior teachers, which remain unfilled.

The goal of promotion, according to TSC Chief Executive Secretary Nancy Macharia, is to improve morale and job satisfaction, increase loyalty, inspire staff, and promote career advancement.
