KCSE Candidate Collapses and Dies After Exam

After sitting for the Kiswahili paper, a private candidate in her mid-30s fainted this morning.

Before collapsing, the female student, a private candidate at Njenga Karume Secondary School in Molo, allegedly complained of feeling unwell. She was then taken to Molo Sub-County Hospital, where medical personnel pronounced her dead upon arrival.

Molo education officials arrived at the school and headed to the Molo Sub-county hospital to investigate the incident.

According to the deceased’s father, his daughter, a casual worker at Molo Sub-county Hospital, was a devoted individual keen to follow her ambitions after taking her KCSE.

He stated there was no trace of illness on their daughter while they were having a lighthearted conversation last night, and the father said it was God’s will because their daughter left behind three children, including a one-month-old newborn.

According to Joseph Njoroge, the Molo Sub-county Director of Adult Education, they received word that the woman had fainted and died upon arrival at the hospital.

Njoroge stated that 27 students were taking the KCSE exam, which began earlier this week.

The student’s body was transferred to the Molo Sub-County Hospital Mortuary.

After falling seriously ill in Tran Nzoia County, a Form Four Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) candidate has been writing her national exams at a hospital in Kitale.

According to reports, the girl was in the middle of her first examination paper on Monday, November 6, when she became ill.

Concerned for her health, the principal decided to rush her to Royal Gardens Hospital for immediate medical assistance.

Her father, Peter Kilubi, expressed disbelief at learning of his daughter’s abrupt illness.

“I was told that she was on the verge of collapse. The school’s principal, in wisdom, decided to take her to the hospital,” he said to reporters.

The attending physician, Dr. Joseph Obuonyo, verified the diagnosis and disclosed that laboratory tests suggested Nelly had a severe case of malaria.

Reportedly, the lady experienced a severe cerebral form of malaria during examinations.

She arrived at the hospital on November 6, 2023, in an altered state of mind with a fever, headaches, and generalized weakness. She is currently in the hospital seeking medical treatment.
