TSC Reveals Delocalisation Plan For Teachers Aged 56 as KNUT Meets in Kisumu.
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has informed the education committee that the government was reconsidering the delocalization program.
In its consideration was the recommendation that teachers aged 56 and older be permitted to work in their home towns.
Their spouses were also to be stationed at a near distance.
Macharia stated that delocalized teachers who wish to change their status should make personal requests.
This comes as the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) meets in Kisumu to discuss issues of reversal of the delocalization policy.
Mr. Oyuu stated that reversing the transfers has become a serious challenge since the government abandoned its delocalization agenda.
Mr. Oyuu stated that Many may be unaware that there is an issue with what to do with teachers who have indicated a desire to return to their home counties after the posts they held there have been filled.
The union also praised the government’s decision to hire more teachers.
Mr. Oyuu stated that the government, through the Teachers Service Commission, has already posted 35,550 vacancies in elementary and high schools.
Additionally, the union requests that TSC provide it permission to resolve disciplinary issues through the Teachers Appeals Tribunal.
“The tribunal was abolished at some point for reasons not known to us. As it stands, TSC accuses teachers, hears the cases and determines their fate. Initially, we used to sit at the commission, more so when a teacher has been dismissed and he or she appeals,” said Mr Oyuu.
