Schools Resort to Tents to Ease Overcrowding Ahead of Form One Admission
As schools resume, numerous secondary schools in Thika are contending with overcrowding, resorting to makeshift tents as temporary classrooms.
This situation arises as Form One students are anticipated to commence their enrollment next Monday.
A group of principals highlighted that their facilities are under immense strain as they strive to align with the government’s 100 percent transition policy into secondary school.

James Gitau, the principal of MP Shah Chania Boys High School, reported that tents would be utilized since they are expecting an influx of over 500 new form one students in the coming week, adding to the existing student population of approximately 1500.
Mary Mwangi, the principal of Chania Girls High School, concurred, stating that the school plans to employ tents to manage the expected surge in student numbers.
She mentioned that parents have generously contributed funds for the construction of additional classrooms.
Despite the infrastructural challenges, the principals expressed their commitment to ensuring a conducive learning environment for their students.
