Governor Sakaja to represent Kenya at Global School Meals Coalition Summit in Paris
On October 18 and 19, the governor of Nairobi, Johnson Sakaja, will attend the inaugural meeting of the Global School Meals Coalition (GSMC) in Paris, France.
Currently on a five-day working trip in the French capital, the Governor will represent President William Ruto at the summit.
French President Emmanuel Macron invited Dr. Ruto, but he was unable to attend due to prior commitments, according to Head of Public Service Felix Koskei. He decided to use Governor Sakaja as his representative.

Sakaja’s agenda also includes discussions about school nutrition programs.
At a meeting with students on Tuesday, the governor stated, “The greatest impact we have is not based on data or numbers, but on the children’s awareness that someone cares about them.”
This decision follows Sakaja’s August 27 introduction of the “Dishi Na County” school feeding program in Nairobi.
The goal of the nutrition program is to provide nutritious meals to economically disadvantaged children enrolled in public Primary Schools and Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) centres.

According to Sakaja, the initiative’s primary objective is to alleviate the financial burdens of vulnerable parents while ensuring that students continue their education.
The governor reaffirmed that the program will have a positive effect on school enrollment and transition rates to higher education institutions in all 17 subcounties of Nairobi.
Initiated in 2021 with the support of France and Finland, the GSMC aims to provide school meals to every child in the world by 2030 in order to support their educational development and general well-being.
President Macron will open the summit this year.
