Government Increases Passport and Visa Fees; New Charges
The government has announced an increase in the passport and visa service charge.
The government said in a special gazette notice that the charge for an ordinary 66-page passport has been raised from Ksh 7,500 to Ksh 12,000.
An ordinary 34-page passport now costs Ksh 7,500 instead of Ksh 4,500.
The charge for a diplomatic 50-page document will increase from Ksh7,500 to Ksh15,000, while the fee for an ordinary 50-page document will increase from Ksh7,500 to Ksh9,500.

In contrast, the cost of replacing a lost passport has risen from Ksh12,000 to Ksh20,000, while the cost of replacing a mutilated passport has risen from Ksh10,000 to Ksh20,000.
Meanwhile, obtaining a single-journey visa will cost double the price, from Ksh 7,572 to Ksh 15,145, while multiple-journey visa expenses have increased from Ksh 15,145 to Ksh 75,725.
Meanwhile, extending a visa, which was previously free, would now cost Ksh 30,290, and applying for visas for Kenyan children, which was previously free, will now cost the same amount.
However, the cost of applying for a temporary permit passport and a service passport is still the same.

The fees for immigration and other consular services are effective immediately.
Following a backlog of passport processing at the Nyayo home, CS Kindiki reshuffled the whole immigration service.
CS Kindiki also revealed that the administration has implemented a 24-hour working shift to decrease the backlog.
CS Kindiki has committed to open a new immigration office in Kericho by January 2024, reducing the burden in Kisumu and Eldoret.
