KCSE Exam Cheating: How Teachers were busted and Arrested at Gekonge High School
Four Gekonge High School teachers have been arrested and will face charges of participating in malpractices in the ongoing Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations.
The teachers include the school’s principal, Morris Oyugi, according to a senior officer with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI). They were allegedly apprehended while photocopying examination papers with the goal of unlawfully distributing them.

The elaborate strategy, according to the officer, comprises both teaching and non-teaching staff at the school, as well as center managers, invigilators, supervisors, and security officials. Teachers who were not permitted to enter the school compound during the examination period swapped places with the bursars and secretary, who are permitted to remain at school while other personnel are freed.
Upon receiving the examination papers from the distribution center and opening them, the teachers retrieved the surplus copies and went to the nearby primary school to photocopy them during the ongoing examination. The subject teachers then formulated the answers on the copies, duplicated them for the total number of students in the school, and discreetly inserted them into the examination room.
Candidates took Chemistry Paper II and English Paper III yesterday. They will take Kiswahili Paper II (lugha) in the morning and Kiswahili Paper I (insha) in the afternoon today.

The police officers discovered that Christine Kemunto, one of the detained teachers hired by the board of management, falsely claimed to be the secretary but actually teaches Christian Religious Education at the school.
The detectives also discovered that Wilson Maina, the biology and chemistry teacher, was in frequent communication with the principal during the chemistry paper exam, leading them to believe it had anything to do with the exam. Eric Moseti, a mathematics teacher who was in the school during the operation, escaped by climbing over the fence and sprinting away.
According to the DCI official, detectives discovered more centers in Nyamira, Kisii, Migori, and Kisumu where examination materials are electronically transferred. The contents, according to detectives, are largely disseminated on the Telegram network.
