Nyambaria High School Principal Charles Onyari Suspended by TSC as KCSE Exams Centre Manager

The principal of Nyambaria High School, Charles Onyari, is facing a suspension from his role as a centre manager in the ongoing Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations.

Nyambaria High School, located in Nyamira County, stood out as the surprising top performer in the 2022 exams. The decision to suspend Mr. Onyari was executed by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) based on a recommendation from the Kenya National Examinations Council (Knec).

It’s important to note that Mr. Onyari’s suspension pertains only to his role as the centre manager and not as the school’s principal. The suspension comes in response to allegations of his involvement in “facilitating examination irregularities” at the school.

While the official making the announcement wished to remain anonymous, the motivation behind the suspension is clear: putting an end to any form of impunity concerning examination malpractice. Moreover, this action reflects the ongoing effort to maintain the integrity of the KCSE examinations and ensure fairness in the process.

The suspension doesn’t target only Mr. Onyari; it also extends to the sub-county director of education in Manga, Nyamira County, who is in suspension for similar involvement in facilitating examination irregularities.

This development underscores the commitment of the education authorities in Kenya, including TSC and Knec, to root out any form of examination malpractice, which can undermine the credibility and fairness of the education system. It also sends a strong message that it will not tolerate actions contrary to the principles of integrity.

The decision to suspend the centre manager and the sub-county director of education may serve as a warning to others involved in similar activities and contribute to a more secure and reliable examination process, ultimately benefiting the students who deserve a level playing field.
