Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu has announced that Junior Secondary students’ uniforms will be distinct from those of primary school students.

Additionally, the students will have different uniforms from the rest.

Machogu stated that school lwill create new colors for learners

He stated, however, that parents will bear the cost of uniforms.

"At this particular point, since it is secondary, the uniform will not be the same and each board of management will be able to make decisions on the colour and type of uniform students will be put on.

"The Grade 7 learners will have different uniforms, which the heads of schools will come up with and parents will cater for,” the CS said.

The CBC task panel suggested that Junior Secondary learners be housed in existing primary schools on December 1, 2022.

The Ministry of Education has instructed public school learners not to demand any fees to Junior Secondary schools.

The government has allocated Sh9.6 billion for junior secondary education.

“We worked on a figure which is closer to that of senior secondary school and the President accepted,” Education CS Ezekiel Machogu said.

This academic year, the government would provide Sh15,000 as a capitation payment to each student in seventh grade.

Machogu instructed parents to only pay for uniforms that will be reissued in Junior Secondary Schools.

“The amount the government has been given is 22,244 for secondary and Sh1,420 for primary school,” he said.

The seventh-grade learners will report to school on January 30, 2023.

The Basic Education Act stipulates that public schools should not charge school since the government provides a per-student stipend.
