Suspected Killers Of JKUAT Student Detained For 14 Days

Suspected Killers Of JKUAT Student Detained For 14 Days.Three persons suspected of being involved in the murder of a Jomo Kenyatta University of Science and Technology (JKUAT) student last Tuesday have been detained for further 14 days to allow police to conclude their investigations. This comes after the Investigating Officer, Peter Kaibiru, filed a variety of applications to hold the suspects in order to meet all conditions before formally prosecuting them.On Tuesday morning, Joseph Muchiri, 22, Kefa Mwaniki, and Paul Mbatha, 20, are being apprehended for allegedly stabbing to death Joel Juma, a 4th year Industrial Chemistry student, in Juja town.“I have a strong conviction that the three are responsible for the murder of the student and I request the court to allow me to keep them for 14 days, to complete the investigations,” said Kaibiru.Oscar Wanyaga, Senior Resident Magistrate in Thika, approved the plea on Thursday and ordered that the suspects be kept until May 5, when they will appear in court.“I have allowed your request to hold them but make sure by May 5, they are either charged or released. If by tomorrow you find no evidence, there is no justification of keeping them in custody,” said Wanyaga. The three are suspected of stabbing Juma at 2 a.m. on Tuesday when he and his fiancée were on their way to obtain test prep materials from a colleague who resided in a neighboring apartment. They are reported to have pounced on the dead with knives, physically beat him, and then stabbed him twice in the chest before snatching his phone and other possessions. The woman girlfriend, on the other hand, escaped unharmed since she was not carrying any valuables at the time of the occurrence.According to Juja DCI Richard Mwaura, the suspects were apprehended after a rigorous forensic study of the site by Crime Scene specialists stationed at the DCI National Forensic Laboratory, which led the investigators to the identify of the suspects.ALSO READ:He stated that one of the suspects was apprehended from his hiding in Kiandutu, Thika town, and the other was apprehended in Gachororo, Juja, while attempting to elude a police dragnet.Mwaniki was apprehended Wednesday evening in Thika’s Kiandutu Estate.Suspected Killers Of JKUAT Student Detained For 14 Days.
