Schools to be Categorized According to STEM, Social Science, Arts, and Sports Career pathways
If the recommendations of the education reform task force make it into the final report, parents’ scramble for national institutions may become extinct.
Teachers Updates has learned that the education reform team wants the current categorization of schools to be abolished and replaced with a method that emphasizes pathways.
The team has proposed categorizing schools according to STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics), Social Science, Arts, and Sports career pathways.
The information can be found in a proposed report by the Presidential Working Group on Education Reforms (PWPER).
If the proposals are approved, the Ministry of Education will be required to conduct an audit to determine the number and distribution of public secondary schools across the country within the next six months.
In addition, within six months, the ministry will be required to develop criteria for classifying schools in terms of career pathways, while ensuring that all regions have access to all options.
This implies that no region of the country will be disadvantaged in terms of access to schools that offer the three pathways.
And within a year, the ministry will be required to improve guidelines regarding the establishment of low-cost primary boarding institutions.
A draft report comprising the recommendations of the Presidential Working Group on Education Reforms (PWPER) suggests that the ministry abandon the current school classification system.
If the recommendations are included in the final report, national schools, extra-county schools, county schools, and sub-county schools will no longer exist.
