Revealed: Raphael Tuju and George Magoha, Were Cousin
Raphael Tuju, former Secretary General of Jubilee, has disclosed that George Magoha, former Education Cabinet Secretary, was his cousin.
This revelation was made at Magoha’s funeral service held at Consolata Shrine on Thursday. Tuju shared that their relationship goes back 83 years when Magoha’s mother, Mama Sarah, raised Tuju’s mother after she became an orphan.
Tuju noted that even his former cabinet colleagues did not know about their relationship and that he never approached Magoha with issues regarding the Ministry of Education, but rather relied on the then PS for Basic Education, Belio Kipsang.
He stated that Joseph Kinyua, former head of public service, was unaware of their family ties and jokingly added that if Kinyua had known, he may not have employed Magoha.
The former Jubilee SG shared that Magoha had complained of fatigue a day before his death on January 24, 2023, which he attributed to the planning of his brother’s burial.
Tuju had even met with Magoha the day before his passing and noted that Magoha was in high spirits and did not show any signs of health challenges.
Tuju reminisced about the time he spent with Magoha and shared that they had discussed the funeral arrangements of Magoha’s brother, Professor Nyabera.
He expressed his sadness at the sudden passing of his friend and expressed his condolences to Magoha’s family. Magoha will be laid to rest at his home in Umiru, Nyamnina on Saturday, February 11, 2023.
