Proposed Elgeyo Marakwet and West Pokot TTI to To Tame Insecurity

The governments of Elgeyo Marakwet and West Pokot County intend to create a Technical Training Institute (TTI) in Kapsait to deter idle youths from engaging in banditry activities and to foster long-term peace between communities.

West Pokot Governor Simon Kachapin and his Elgeyo Marakwet colleague Wisley Rotich each pledged Sh10 million as part of their 10% commitment to the TTI’s establishment. The national government, on the other hand, will fund the remainder.

The West Pokot governor intends to disburse monies through a supplementary budget by February, with the goal of uniting youths and equipping them with livelihood skills. Catholic Bishops Dominic Kimengich of Eldoret, Henry Juma Odonya of Kitale Diocese, and Bishop Emeritus Maurice Crowley graced an annual prayer meeting.

Governor Kachapin calls on experts and leaders to work together to foster peace in the region, noting its agricultural and food security potential. According to the two leaders, the institution will allow teenagers to diversify their sources of income and stop relying on livestock, which is a source of insecurity in the area.

Governor Rotich urged youths to enroll in Tujiajiri training once it is released so that they can engage in online occupations and earn a living while waiting for career chances. As a result, the government has purchased road building equipment to rebuild roads damaged by the recent El Nino rains, allowing farmers to transport their produce to markets.

Bishop Kimengich praised the two governors for their efforts to promote peace and urged politicians to refrain from agitating communities.
