Elgeyo Marakwet Students to Study in USA, Canada, and Australia
Governor Wisley Rotich has expanded Elgeyo Marakwet County’s international education programs to assist more students in gaining access to study abroad opportunities.
Rotich has negotiated easier terms for payment of fees and other conditions to enable more students to travel abroad for study opportunities in nations such as the United States of America, Canada, and Australia.
Rotich made the revelations as he saw off 22 students who are among the more than 100 expected to travel to study at universities in Canada and the United States.
He stated that he had negotiated fee subsidies with colleges. According to him, the need for financial statements prevented many students from studying abroad.

He explained that he had simplified the process for students to pursue studies abroad, but noted that a significant obstacle he faced was the requirement for robust financial records.
He pointed out that some parents didn’t even possess bank accounts.
He cautioned the students to exercise caution in their new environment and not to become enamored with the new lifestyles they would encounter.
Rotich encouraged the students studying abroad to represent Kenya and Elgeyo Marakwet positively and uphold high standards of discipline. He urged them to concentrate on their studies and personal development.
Residents applauded Governor Rotich’s initiative, describing it as transparent and accommodating.
Stephen Kiplal, whose wife is one of the beneficiaries, was pleased that the process went without a hitch.

Kiplal expressed his gratitude to the governor for providing an opportunity for his wife to participate in the program when he learned about it. He encouraged his wife to apply, and she was selected.
Athlete and coach from Australia, Alfred Koech, stated that the governor’s actions were exemplary.
He praised Elgeyo Marakwet for the successful approach of directly engaging with universities and commended the governor for making the right decisions.
The program’s cost is approximately Sh600,000 per semester, which varies based on the chosen courses and college.
Similar overseas education programs in the neighboring county of Uasin GIshu have been paralyzed by controversies involving the misappropriation of funds paid by parents for their children to study in Finland and Canada.
