MKU Announces Fee Waiver for Certificate Collection

Students who graduated from Mount Kenya University in previous years but were unable to claim their certificates due to a lack of fees can now smile.

This is after the institution’s Board of Directors announced that all fines have been paid and students can claim their certificates for free.

Simon Gicharu, the institution’s founder, made the announcement during Friday’s 23rd commencement ceremony.

According to him, the Covid-19 pandemic exacerbated the issue of uncollected certificates.

“On behalf of the Board of Directors, I would like to announce a waiver of all the fines. We have written off the Sh80 million and all past students can now come and collect their certificates without having to pay a cent,” Gicharu said.

He stated that the board made the decision so that students could pursue their vocations.

“In accordance with the university’s motto, ‘Unlocking Infinite Possibilities,’ we do not wish to impede your efforts to unlock the infinite possibilities,” he said.

The institution has graduated 6,108 students who successfully completed their studies.

There were 3,138 male graduates and 2,970 female graduates.

Vice Chancellor of MKU Deo Jaganyi acknowledged the support given to the graduates during their studies by their parents, guardians, sponsors, and staff, among others.

According to him, the University has remained resilient and has persevered in its efforts to enroll students in a variety of academic programs.

“The university enrolled 54,138 students during the January-April and May-August semesters of 2023, respectively.” This is evident evidence that MKU has established its niche and maintained quality education over the years, as stated by Jaganyi.

The institution has also continued to attract both domestic and international students, he added.

Gicharu challenged the graduates to be the architects of their own destinies and to carry the invaluable lessons and experiences they acquired at MKU with them at all times.
