Ministry of Education Slightly Adjust 2023 School Calendar as Students Break for Half Term
The Ministry of Education in a circular signed by Early Learning and Basic Education PS Belio Kipsang has adjusted the 2023 school calendar in Kenya.
The circular was copied to Education CS Ezekiel Machogu, TSC Secretary Nancy Macharia and KNEC CEO David Njengere.
The changes were made to the duration of the national exams, and the students will have a three-day half-term break from March 16 to March 19, and they will be expected back to school on Monday of the following week.
Initially, the learners were to break on March 23 and resume on March 26, but the new calendar has changed that. The KCPE and KPSEA will begin on November 30 and end on November 2, which means that the exam will take four days just like the initial calendar.
Students writing KCSE will also sit the exams from November 3 to November 24, which takes 21 days.
The initial calendar showed that KCSE would take place from November 10 to December 1. The circular reads that “KCSE marking will begin on November 27 to December 15.”
The first term will have 13 weeks, the second term 14 weeks, and the third term will be the shortest with 10 weeks. Students will break from October 28 to January 8, and initially, they were supposed to get two months’ break from November 3 till 2024.
The circular has made these changes, which have implications for students, teachers, and parents. This new calendar is important as it provides clarity and allows everyone to plan accordingly.
It is essential that all stakeholders in the education sector adhere to the new calendar to avoid any disruptions that may occur.
The adjustments made to the calendar show that the Ministry of Education is responsive to the needs of the education sector and is committed to ensuring that students receive quality education.
It is hoped that the changes made will have a positive impact on the education sector and that students will benefit from the adjustments made.
