KUPPET Backs Proposal: Allowing Sick Candidates to Skip National Exams
The Kilifi branch of the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (Kuppet) has endorsed the proposal to permit sick candidates to skip national exams until they have completely recovered.
Julias Melly, the chair of the National Assembly’s Education Committee, made the suggestion and claimed that it would be unfair to subject a sick student to exams.
Melly argued that hospitalized candidates could be given additional examinations after they recover.

He pointed out that giving exams to a sick person in the hospital is not appropriate and that they are actively seeking ways to address this situation.
Additionally, Melly emphasized that it’s wrong to subject individuals who have been sick for an extended period, including those recovering from surgery and still on medication, to exams.
It is inappropriate to administer exams to someone who has been unwell for a long time, including those who have undergone surgery and are still taking medication.
According to the chairman of the Kuppet Kilifi branch, Opollo K’Opollo, many students who become ill during examinations struggle to complete their exams when hospitalized.
Opollo urged the Kenya National Examination Council board to put more effort into ensuring that the examinations reach candidates on time due to the anticipated El Nino rainfall in October.
