KUCCPS Portal Challenges Persist as Students Opt for Midnight Course Applications
For almost two weeks, students have been burning the midnight oil, attempting to navigate the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) portal for course applications.
Despite paying Sh1,500 through e-Citizen, frustration looms as they face difficulties applying for various courses at institutions.

Some students have managed to submit their applications during the late hours, with payments validated as they now await placement in different universities for courses ranging from marine engineering and IT to forensic science.
Rural areas, plagued by network connectivity challenges, exacerbate the situation. Lynne Loyar from Turkana County abandoned her efforts due to unreliable networks and repeated payment prompts on the e-Citizen platform.
Acknowledging the frustration, KUCCPS CEO Dr. Agnes Wahome pledged a second deadline extension until satisfaction that no student is left behind.

Blaming e-Citizen for extended payment verification, Dr. Wahome clarified the impact on KUCCPS, now solely reliant on the platform. She stated, “The success of an application does not depend on the time of day.”
Dr. Wahome announced two revision exercises for those yet to apply or secure a course. Technical and Vocational Education and Training have two placements yearly, and the Kenya Medical Training College holds another placement in September.
The KUCCPS application, which opened on February 7, targets 2023 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education exam takers and Form Four leavers from previous years up to 2000.
