Kisumu Senator Ojienda Issues Sh8.3 Million Bursaries, Defends Statehouse Visit
Senator Prof. Tom Ojienda has sponsored bursaries and full scholarships worth Sh8,393,000 to over 700 needy students in Kisumu County, as part of his personal contribution to support the education sector in the area.
Ojienda, who issued cheques to the beneficiaries in his office in Kisumu, said his office received an overwhelming number of applications, prompting him to source funds to support the deserving cases.
The initiative, which is also supported by his friends, will be ongoing to ensure that needy students in the area are supported to realize their dreams.
Ojienda defended his recent visit to State House, saying that it was part of his strategy to work with all government leaders and agencies to improve the livelihoods of the people of Kisumu.
He believes that representation should improve the livelihoods of people, and that leaders should ensure that their constituents have access to good roads, food, electricity, and healthcare.
His engagement with the various arms of government and leaders will continue to ensure that the people of Kisumu benefit, he said.
Ojienda, who is firmly in the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party, said that his work with the government will not interfere with his oversight role in the Senate, and that he will not hesitate to criticize the Kenya Kwanza administration whenever it goes wrong.
According to Ojienda, education is important for children who are the future generation, as it enables them to support their parents in leading a decent life in old age.
He emphasized that his initiative will continue to support needy students in the area, and that it is part of his contribution to support the education sector in Kisumu County.
