In December 2022, the Kenya Technical Trainers College (KTTC) underwent a rebranding, now known as the Kenya School of TVET (KSTVET). This transformation positions the institution uniquely, focusing on training individuals to become trainers in technical and vocational education and training (TVET) institutions.

KTTC courses are designed to foster innovation, applied research, entrepreneurship, and cultural development. Originally commissioned by the late former president Daniel Arap Moi in 1978, KTTC aimed to produce technically skilled personnel to serve as instructors in TVET institutions and across various sectors of the economy.

Today, it continues to uphold this mission, offering a diverse range of courses tailored to meet industry demands and promote skill development.

KSTVET Courses: Everything You Should Know

KSTVET, formerly KTTC, now specializes exclusively in technical trainer education, offering diploma and certificate programs. These courses are designed to equip individuals with the necessary skills to excel as technical trainers in their respective fields.

Courses Offered:

  • Diploma in Technical Trainer Education
  • Certificate in Instructor Training

Note: The institution plans to introduce additional short courses in the future but currently focuses solely on technical trainer education.

KSTVET Requirements:

All applicants must possess a certificate, diploma, or degree in a specific field to be eligible for admission to KSTVET. Certificate or diploma holders may apply for the Certificate in Instructor Training program, while degree or diploma holders are eligible for the Diploma in Technical Trainer Education program. During the application process, applicants must indicate their area of specialization and provide documentation of their previous tertiary education.

Application Process:

KSTVET exclusively accepts online applications. Prospective students who meet the entry requirements and aspire to become technical trainers can initiate the application process. Please note that a non-refundable application fee of KES 1,500 is required.

The intake periods typically occur in January, June, and August, and you can find the Join Now button on the homepage indicating the ongoing intake session.

Once you click the button, you’ll be redirected to the KSTVET Campuscura page where you’ll find an online application form. Fill out the form accurately and attach the necessary academic documents.

After proofreading, submit your application and await official communication from the college regarding your application status. Successful applicants will receive notifications through the contact information provided.

The fee structure for the Diploma in Technical Trainer Education program is as follows:

Term 1 (in-person training) – KES 38,358 Term 2 (online) – KES 26,139 Term 3 (in-person training) – KES 34,803 Term 4 (teaching practice) – KES 0

Note that fees may be subject to change according to administrative guidelines. Additionally, accommodation fees will apply if you choose to reside in the institution’s housing.

For those interested in pursuing a Certificate in Instructor Training, a different fee structure will be provided upon admission. The Kenya School of TVET also offers school-based programs.

To qualify for admission into KSTVET, applicants must possess a certificate, diploma, or degree in a relevant field. The institution exclusively provides training for instructors and technical educators who have completed tertiary or higher education.

Becoming a college technical trainer in Kenya requires pursuing technical trainer education, available to those with prior training in a specific field. While KTTC offers some online components, the Diploma in Technical Trainer Education primarily involves in-person instruction, with online units in the second term for full-time students. School-based program participants must attend in-person classes in April, August, and December.
