KCB Foundation Begins Form One Scholarship Selection for 2024

The Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) Foundation has begun the process of selecting students for the KCB Scholarship Programme, which will provide full scholarships to Form One students across the nation.

On Friday and Saturday, the selection committee conducted interviews to choose the targeted 1,000 learners. The KCB Foundation has begun home verification checks across the counties today and will continue until Friday, December 22, 2023.

According to a press release, the successful candidates will be notified by January 10, 2024. The program targets bright and economically disadvantaged pupils from all 47 counties in Kenya who will be sitting for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) in 2023.

There are also 100 slots reserved for students from underrepresented groups and people with disabilities (PWD).

Candidates must meet county-specific cut-off points and indicate they come from an economically disadvantaged background, among other requirements, to qualify. The scholarship covers all four years of high school as well as four years of post-secondary education.

KCB Foundation Director Mendi Njonjo reported that there is significant interest in the program. The Foundation continues to play a critical role in safeguarding the right to education for learners who would otherwise have dropped out of school due to lack of school fees.

The focus is on improving the transition rate from primary to secondary school while increasing the employability of candidates upon completion of their education. The Foundation has been awarding scholarships for the past 17 years.

Mendi Njonjo expressed the organization’s commitment to enhancing the selection process for the program, emphasizing the importance of ensuring that only deserving students are admitted. The process involves interviews with candidates and background checks, including home visits.

Aside from tuition, the full scholarship package covers personal items, transportation, shopping, pocket money stipends, learning materials, and assistive devices for students with disabilities. It also encourages students in Forms 1 and 3 to wear school uniforms.

It also provides one-on-one mentorship meetings quarterly and an annual holiday mentorship program, as well as internship and employment options during and after university education.

Mendi Njonjo expressed the commitment to accompany the selected students throughout their educational journey, ensuring they receive a comprehensive educational experience and develop essential life skills to become productive members of the community.

Since its inception in 2007, the scholarship program has helped 4,675 students, with 2,715 still enrolled. With a 98% secondary completion rate and an 84% university transition rate, the program is a hallmark KCB Group project to address current challenges that impede many students from pursuing their education.
