Equity scholarships To Sponsor 73 Students At 48 Global Universities

Seventy-three students will get Equity Group Foundation scholarships to attend 48 global universities.

The scholars will attend universities in the US, Canada, the UK, China, India, UAE, and Germany.

Seven scholars are members of Equity Bank Rwanda’sRwanda’s inaugural Equity Leadership Program class, inaugurated in November 2021 to expand Equity Group’sGroup’s social impact in the region.

Over four years, the 2022 global airlift cohort will get Ksh 2.1 billion (USD 16,867,676) in scholarships.

The scholars will also get an airlift stipend for changeover preparations.

The students have full scholarships and were trained and mentored at a week-long boot camp.

Dr. James Mwangi, executive chairman of Equity Group Foundation, praised the scholars and advised them to remain committed and focused.

“Today marks the beginning of a new journey for all of you. Your hard work and determination have seen you break boundaries to join global institutions of higher learning in pursuit of knowledge.

"We are incredibly proud of you and urge you to remain focused and to keep your eye on the prize.

"Four years from today, I am sure that each of you will be on course to make a great impact in society by applying what you have learned to solve some of the challenges that face our African continent,” said Dr. Mwangi.

Dr. Mwangi stated Equity Group’sGroup’s 6-pillar Africa Recovery and Resilience Plan would speed the continent’s post-COVID-19 recovery by investing in the empowerment of the African people.

He encouraged the scholars to achieve in their studies and to see themselves as leaders who will catalyze change to elevate our region.

Seven hundred sixty-one students have benefited from the college counseling program and won full scholarships to top colleges.

Twenty students will enter Ivy League universities, including Penn (5), Yale (3), Harvard (3), Princeton (2), Dartmouth (2), Cornel (2), Brown (2), and Columbia (1).

The Equity Leadership Program is a 1998 Equity Group Foundation effort to foster leadership in promising adolescents.
