CS Ezekiel Machogu: Students Who Missed KCPE to Sit for Special Exams in January

On Wednesday, Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu announced the scheduling of a special set of Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examinations in January.

Machogu provided clarification during the release of the 2023 KCPE results at Mtihani House, stating that these exams are designated for students who could not partake in the national examinations.

The decision to conduct these special exams stems from the realization that this year’s KCPE exam marks the final administration by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) as the country fully transitions to the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).

Machogu emphasized that the special examination aims to ensure the government fulfills the 100 percent transition policy.
The CS highlighted that close to 9,000 students did not take the examination for various reasons.

The Ministry will soon announce the specific dates for the 2024 special exams. In order to guarantee that every candidate from the final 2023 KCPE examination cohort has the opportunity to join Form One, Machogu stated that the Ministry of Education will conduct a thorough mapping to identify those who missed this year’s examination and administer a special exam in January 2024.
