Two Dead as Firearms of Killed KCSE Officer in Siaya are Recovered
Wednesday saw the recovery of two firearms and the deaths of two individuals that occurred during a gunfight in the Awinga region of Alego Usonga, Siaya County, as detectives pursued the assailants responsible for the murder of a police officer accompanying the KCSE exam on Monday.
The assailants are believed to be Somalian returnees, according to the police. From their refuge, copies of the Quran and prayer mats were recovered.
On Monday morning, the assailants ambushed the departed along with his colleague and the center manager.

According to eyewitnesses, the officers had just gotten off a school bus that had taken them to the Siaya County administrative building so they could pick up the exam results. However, they disembarked a few meters away from the school because the bus was unable to reach it due to the road’s poor condition.
As the center administrator fled for safety, one of the officers was fatally shot, and the attackers injured the other. The criminals stole the firearms of the officers before fleeing.
Responding swiftly to the location, security personnel transported the injured officer to Siaya County Referral Hospital for medical attention. The corpse of the deceased individual was transferred to the mortuary of the hospital.

County Police Commander Cleti Kimaiyo and Siaya County Commissioner Julius Otieno led the security squad. They arrived at the location and transported the injured officer to the Siaya County referral hospital for treatment. They were also present at the scene.
