KCSE Exam Cheating: Centre Manager, Supervisor and Invigilators Arrested in Kisii

On Wednesday, exam malpractice led to the arrest of four teachers from Bobamba Secondary School in Gucha, Kisii County, including an exam center manager, a supervisor, and two invigilators.

Kisii County Commander Charles Kases reports that KNEC officials apprehended the four individuals after discovering a collection of papers containing answers to Geography Paper 2 within the examination center.

The Ogembo Police Station in Kisii is currently holding four individuals: Center Manager Edwin Mokaya, Supervisor Gideon Omondi, and invigilators Joseph Nyaosi and Ezekiel Nyambane. They will be arraigned on Thursday.

The Kisii County Commander has initiated an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the discovery of the exam answer document on school property.

A few days ago, Nyanchwa Boys High School students, including a 30-year-old private candidate, were the subject of an investigation by the Nyanchwa and Kisii County police into possible examination malpractice.

As part of the crackdown on suspicion of facilitating academic fraud, authorities suspended three school principals and arrested more than twenty teachers as early casualties.

These actions highlight the deterioration in the integrity of national examinations, originally designed to mark the candidates’ transition to tertiary institutions.

Charles Onyari, the chief principal of Nyambaria High School in Nyamira County, which had the highest average score of 10.89 in the previous academic year, was among those suspended.

Additionally, reports suggest that students and faculty from four schools in Nyamira County, namely Nyambaria Boys, Sironga Girls, Gekomoni Secondary School, and St. Paul Gekano Boys, provided statements to the DCI regarding allegations of exam misconduct.

Police apprehended the teachers while they were working on a chemistry paper in Migori County, intending to disclose the questions and answers to candidates at a girls’ school, constituting arguably the gravest instance of academic dishonesty.

Zachariah Samwel, Zablon Chacha, Charles Maroa, Chacha Peter, Madam Triza, and Vincent Onyage were arrested.
