The Aga Khan Foundation International Scholarship application is now open.
Each year, the Aga Khan Foundation awards a limited number of postgraduate scholarships to outstanding students from developing countries who have no other means of funding their studies.
Scholarships are awarded once a year through a competitive application process on a 50 per cent grant: 50 per cent loan basis.

Field of study:The Foundation prioritizes Master’s level courses, but is open to PhD application submissions as well. Courses that are shorter in duration will not be considered.

– Uganda,
– Egypt,
– Those from Bangladesh,
– India,
– Pakistan,
– Afghanistan,
– Tajikistan,
– Kyrgyzstan,
– Syria,
– Madagascar, and Mozambique

– Portugal,
– UK,
– USA and Canada.
Applications are accepted from individuals who are originally from one of the aforementioned developing countries, are interested in development-related studies, and have no other means of funding their education.
Scholarship value/inclusions/term:
The only expenses covered by the Foundation are tuition and living expenses. Travel expenses are not covered by AKF scholarships. PhD students are funded for the first two years of their studies, after which they are expected to find other sources of support.
A 5% annual service charge is levied on the scholarship amount, which is considered a loan. A guarantor must sign the loan agreement as well. Payback begins six months after the end of the Aga Khan Foundation-funded study period.
Eligibility Criteria:
Geographic
The Foundation accepts applications from citizens of Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Syria, Egypt, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Madagascar, and Mozambique.
Also accepted are applicants from France, Portugal, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Canada who are originally from one of the aforementioned developing countries, are interested in development-related studies and have no other means of financing their education.
Residency
Applications are only accepted from the above-mentioned nationals who live in one of the countries where Aga Khan Foundation (AKF), Aga Khan Education Services (AKES), or Aga Khan Education Board (AKEB) offices process applications and interview candidates.
Age Restrictions
Preference is given to students under the age of 30.
Application instructions:
Students can obtain application forms from AKF offices or Aga Khan Education Services/Boards in the countries where they live beginning January 1st of each year.
Applications should be returned to the agency that provided the form. Do not send them to Geneva. Application deadlines in some countries may be earlier, so it is best to submit your application by March 31.
