17-Year-Old Boy Arrested For Attempting To Fly Tycoon’s Plane, Gets Offers to Study Aviation
A 17-year-old boy has been arrested after attempting to fly a light aircraft owned by a white farmer in Gilgil, Nakuru County.
The owner of the aircraft, Peter White, reported that the teenager had snuck onto his ranch and made his way to the hangar where the plane was located. The boy then hopped onto the plane’s cabin and attempted to start the engine, but was unable to take off.
Instead, he hit the edge of a fence and caused damage to the propeller and front curling. Fortunately, the boy was unhurt and was taken into custody to aid in the investigation of the incident.
Reports suggest that the boy is passionate about flying and had learned about aircraft while staying around the ranch.
Following his arrest, Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi has asked for the teenager’s release, suggesting that he be placed in his custody and taken to an aviation school. Sudi’s request was supported by Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai.
Police have not yet determined the boy’s motive for attempting to fly the aircraft. However, it is clear that he accessed the ranch without permission and endangered himself and others by attempting to fly the plane without proper training.
The incident highlights the importance of ensuring that aircraft are kept in secure locations and that only authorized individuals have access to them. It also underscores the need for proper aviation training before attempting to fly any type of aircraft.
