MKU to Host International Conference on Peace and Security
An upcoming International Conference on Peace and Security for Social Enterprise has been scheduled to take place at Mount Kenya University’s main campus from May 18 to 20, at the Mwai Kibaki Convention Centre.
The three-day event aims to bring together academics and practitioners from various sectors to discuss peace and security matters related to social-economic development.
The conference is being organised in collaboration with Kyambogo University of Uganda, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University of Nigeria, the University of Makeni in Sierra Leone, and the University of Eldoret in Kenya.
All five universities are members of the Inter-University Consortium Africa, which is dedicated to advancing knowledge and technological innovation.
The event is the first initiative of the re-branded and enhanced Inter-Universities Consortium-Africa in the post-Covid-19 era.
It will also promote several post-conference activities across the continent aimed at highlighting the positive impact of peace and security on the public good from an international perspective and aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals 2030.
Meanwhile, a month ago, top managers at Mount Kenya University signed performance contracts aimed at enhancing service delivery.
According to founder and chairman Simon Gicharu, the performance contracts have enabled the university to become a leading higher education institution in East Africa.
During the signing ceremony, MKU vice chancellor Prof Deo Jaganyi reflected on last year’s performance contracts and the university’s achievements, which included the full implementation of SCORM in Kigali to help deliver English courses, in line with the previous year’s ICT theme.
