Uasin Gishu County Disburses Ksh119 Million Cheques for 18,000 Students
The government of Uasin Gishu County has recently provided financial support to a significant number of underprivileged students in the region.
The amount disbursed was Ksh119.5 million, and it will benefit 18,071 students across the county who are studying in secondary schools, technical institutions, colleges, and universities.
During the event held at the County headquarters, Governor Jonathan Bii addressed the audience and stated that the bursaries provided will greatly alleviate the financial burden on students as they will cover the tuition fees.
He emphasized that the objective of the program is to ensure that every student in Uasin Gishu County can access quality education regardless of their financial situation.
Governor Bii further revealed that he has already allocated Ksh15.7 million in the supplementary budget to support more underprivileged students who missed out on the program due to the high number of applicants.
This move highlights the government’s commitment to providing educational opportunities to as many students as possible.
Moreover, Governor Bii disclosed that the government has also initiated plans for the roll-out of the school feeding program in Early Childhood Development centers throughout the county.
This program will be a vital step towards addressing malnutrition and ensuring that children in the region can have access to nutritious meals.
Tabitha Chepkemoi, a beneficiary from Ng’enyilel Vocational Training Center, expressed her gratitude and appreciation towards the government’s initiative.
She mentioned that the bursary money has enabled her to complete a course in plumbing and hairdressing, which has made her self-reliant. She further added that the program has helped her to come out of abject poverty and has given her hope for a better future.
In conclusion, the Uasin Gishu County government’s efforts to support underprivileged students through bursaries and school feeding programs are commendable.
