Muga K’Olale, a prominent figure in the Kenyan academic community, passed away on Saturday evening at Matata Nursing Home in Oyugis town, Homa Bay County.

K’Olale served as the chair of the Universities Academic Staff Union (Uasu) for a long period before resigning in July 2021. The hospital’s management confirmed that K’Olale was admitted on March 21 and had been receiving treatment at the hospital until his death.

Matron Margaret Orimba stated that K’Olale had been seriously ill during the last week of his life. The hospital management extended their condolences to K’Olale’s family, and described his passing as a great loss. Following his death, his body was taken to the hospital’s mortuary.

K’Olale’s resignation from Uasu was controversial, as it came after he was co-opted into the union. Some officials from Uasu’s Egerton University chapter contested the move in court.
