Student Denies Defrauding Chandaria Sh1.2 million.
On Thursday, a University of Nairobi student was charged with tampering with a Chandaria Industries Limited purchase order and stealing Sh1.2 million from the company.
Jane Njeri Karinge, a second-year law student, was accused of forging a fake Chandaria Industries Limited document and passing it off as genuine on May 17, 2019, at an unknown location within the country.
Njeri was also charged with knowingly altering a purchase order and presenting it to Elizabeth Wawira as if it had been executed by Chandaria Industries.
The accused is also charged with obtaining Sh1,200,000 from Elizabeth Wawira at Gikomba market between April 4, 2019, and July 31, 2019, by falsely claiming to have secured a tender with Chandaria Industries Limited.
She pleaded with the court through her lawyer, Danstan Omari, to release her on reasonable bail and bond terms because she is a single mother who is still breastfeeding and is scheduled to begin her exams next week.
Njeri denied the charges in front of Milimani chief magistrate Susan Shitubi, who released her on Sh100,000 cash bail or Sh500,000 bond.
On February 17, the case will be heard again.

In the same court, a man was charged with conspiracy to defraud the national library service of Sh1.5 million.
Nyamako Geoffrey was accused of conspiring with others to defraud the Kenya National Library Service of Sh1, 521, 026 on January 28, 2020, at an unknown location within the country.

He is also accused of altering a KRA e-slip for Peter Ndiragu Njogu, a KNLS accountant.
Nyamako asserted that the document was a genuine and valid e-slip prepared and issued by KRA.
He denied the charges in front of Shitubi and was released on Sh650, 000 cash bail or Sh1 million bond.
The pretrial hearing will take place on February 17th.
