Student Becomes ‘Village Hero’  with B- KCSE Grade Achievement

In a historic achievement for Manda Airport Secondary School, an unprecedented Grade (B-) was secured by one of their sons, 18-year-old John Simon, marking a significant milestone for the six-year-old institution.

His remarkable success, a beautiful miracle according to villagers, is seen as a beacon of hope for future achievements.

Simon’s journey to academic excellence is one of unwavering determination. Narrating his experience, he revealed a daily one-hour trek from Lamu to Manda, navigating through treacherous paths from the Manda jetty, cutting through dense forests fraught with hazards.

Despite these challenges, Simon, who enrolled in 2020 as a Form One student, emerged as the top performer in the school’s second KCSE cohort.

The 2023 KCSE exams saw 25 students participating, with three of them earning the opportunity to join university. Simon’s outstanding accomplishment has turned him into a village hero, earning praises from local leaders.

Lamu West’s Member of Parliament, Stanley Muthama, lauded Simon’s exceptional performance in a press statement, promising support for the school’s infrastructure projects and urging the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to deploy additional teachers.

James Kimemia, the head of Manda Airport Secondary School, acknowledged Simon’s achievement as a precedent for his peers, despite the numerous challenges they face.

Kimemia emphasized the need for improved accessibility to the institution, highlighting the logistical challenges encountered by students.
